OBAMA MOCKS ITSELF AND ITS RIVALS

President Barack Obama joked tonight at the expense of their own aging since joining the White House, and joked at the expense of his Republican rivals for the Annual Dinner of Correspondents.

More than 2,300 people gathered in the great hall of the Hilton Hotel to honor Correspondents Association White House, on the 50th anniversary of the first of these dinners in which the presence of women agreed.

The show, originally dominated by journalists, has become over the years in a parade of movie stars, television, music and media.

His proposals

Before the traditional speech with jokes, Obama briefly left the stage, backstage and was overheard muttering about how much he has grown old in the three years at the presidency, and wondering what to say in front of the guests but it worked the screen with text.

"I need a cigarette," said Obama, who repeatedly has said he has stopped smoking.

Back on stage, Obama recalled as "historic anniversary" the almost year since a squad of special forces in Pakistan killed the head of Al Qaida, Osama bin Laden.

"In that same weekend a year ago, we did justice to one of the world's most notorious individuals," Obama said.

Then in the large video screens installed in the room appeared a picture of Donald Trump. At dinner last year, the president made jokes at the expense of Trump and his repeated questions about where Obama was born.

20 minutes of jokes

Obama welcomed the presence in the room of some Republicans in Congress and, referring to the obstruction that the party has offered to all presidential initiatives commented that those politicians "could take a break tonight its hard not to pass laws."

"My opponents on the right constantly express their fears about a 'hidden agenda' if I win a second term in the White House," Obama said. "And they're right, there is a hidden agenda. I'll tell you some things that will."

"One thing I will do in a second term," Obama said, "will again enact health care reform."

After nearly 20 minutes of jokes, Obama told the audience that had many in his script "but, truth be told, I have to consult with the Secret Service before they drop the new curfew."

The government has adopted stricter rules of conduct for members of the Secret Service, after several officers were involved in a scandal with prostitutes in Cartagena (Colombia), shortly before the recent Summit of the Americas.

Obama ended his presentation, in a serious tone, praising the role of journalists and emphasizing that at times like tonight "prevails and share the freedom of expression on our differences."

The comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who followed Obama on the podium, his performance began greeting the President 'Salam', probably an allusion to the Muslim greeting salam alaikum, and the constant suspicion of certain right-wing sectors in the U.S. its president is a Muslim.

Kimmel said he would continue with some jokes about the Secret Service, and addressing Obama joked: "If that's not right, Mr. President, please cover your ears, if that's possible."

A feature of Obama's favorite cartoonists is the size of his ears.

Among those attending the dinner were the Spanish chef José Andrés, the head of the Representation of the European Union in the U.S., Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, the director Steven Spielberg, actor George Clooney, singer Lindsay Lohan , and actress Viola Davis, who this year won an Oscar for his role in the film "The Help".
